Vintage hardwood double sided workshop drawers.

These super-sturdy workshop drawers were stained with a dark varnish and years of grime when I found them. I’ve scrubbed the whole unit and drawers with Murphy’s oil soap for wood and they’ve cleaned up an absolute dream!

The forward/rear facing edges looked really cool with the original dark colouring, so I’ve applied a dark oak wood varnish to these areas for contrast. The rest of the cabinet has been given a generous coating of wood oil. It’s given the wood a reddish-brown hue, but this will probably lighten as the oil absorbs.

Each drawer has a different height and can be accessed from both ends of the unit. On one side of the cabinet the drawers have small brass knobs. The opposite side have a plastic or bakelite knobs in a bright shade of orange. All are in very good condition.

The carcass has a veneer of ward on the outside and the inside. Dovetail joints are used throughout chest.

Extremely heavy and very well built. There is some minor cosmetic damage to the top. Maybe soldering iron or similar has been placed repeatedly on the surface giving a deep pitted black texture.

Two of the drawers have internal dividers. The bottom drawer has a very old piece of newspaper wedged inside, please see photographs.

When I was cleaning this down, 15 very old quill tips fell out of the corners of the drawers, leading me to believe this was a sign writer’s cabinet!
